about
"Contrary" is about nostalgia and looking for/finding/losing yourself in the past/present/future. It was co-written and performed together with my friend Tuuli Mustasydän as a part of the Coöccur crowdfunding campaign.
It is now available for download here, and you can also choose to pay a symbolic 1 € fee (or more), with all proceeds going towards the Ikimetsä project of the Finnish Natural Heritage foundation. 1 € protects 2 square metres of ancient forest, absorbing carbon from the atmosphere and helping Earth breathe under these stressful times.
lyrics
Longingly
I look back, I feel
As though somebody
Is calling me to return
Unexpectedly
I am drawn down deep
Where I used to be
And from where I rose
I fall asleep
My roots scattered next to me
My dreams shattered over me
But contrary
To how it may seem
This night is clear as day
Now I can see the whole way
Restlessly
I trace back my way
Looking for the day
I found the end to my beginning
Urgently
I’m in a rush to see
What was to be
And what I couldn’t have seen
I fall beneath
My feet slipping under me
My whole world comes down tumbling
But contrary
To how it may seem
This end is a new beginning
Now I can find my own way
So I go ahead and roam
For what’s a home
But a hole in your soul
Somewhere I’ll feel whole
I fall asleep
My roots scattered next to me
My dreams shattered over me
But contrary
To how it may seem
This night is clear as day
